How to Join Second Life

Second Life is a world apart that's gaining in popularity. It has a three-dimensional interface that's been likened to that of Gibson's cyberpunk aesthetic. While it's still in the early stages, you should become involved in the community and learn what's what before you get left behind.

1. Register for Second Life at its official website. Registering includes generating a character name, so be prepared with a few choices that work for you. Last names are available on a provided list, so you aren't free to choose everything, but it's pretty flexible.
2. Check your system's abilities versus the requirements listed for Second Life software. If it isn't up to specs, you should upgrade before continuing.
3. Download the software required for Second Life. This is available on the confirmation page as a rather obvious button.
4. Run the software where you've downloaded it. You'll start on the starter island as everyone else does, giving you an opportunity to learn the basics before actually joining the world at large.
