How to Hit a Hammer Golf Swing
When it comes to golf, it can seem impossible to perfect your swing so that you hit the ball straight on a consistent basis. Enter the hammer golf swing. This trick of the trade is based on the principal that if you used an elongated hammer to pound nails into the wall with your golf swing, then eventually you would straighten out your swing as you make contact with the nail.
Things You'll Need
- Elongated hammer
- Board
- Nails
- Golf balls
- Golf club
- Tees
- Driving range (optional)

1
Tap several nails into the base of a board across the entire piece of wood. In order to find the right height, practice your golf swing a few times at a slow speed with your hammer club. The place where the hammer hits the board is where you should insert the nails.
-
2
Assume your golf stance as usual. Relax into your stance with your knees slightly bent, shoulders relaxed and your hammer club gripped gently in your hands.

3
Swing at half speed and knock each nail into the piece of wood. (The reason not to swing at full speed is you'll get quite a vibration in your arms when your hands stop dead against the wood.)
-
4
Adjust and correct your stance until you are striking the nails with ease. Many time golfers have a tendency to take their eye off the golf ball or pull their front foot slightly out just before making contact with the ball. This will expose that weakness quite quickly.
-
5
Insert real golf balls on a tee and repeat the hammer golf swing. However, this time use a full swing when you strike the ball. (This will be best done at a driving range so you don't break any windows in the neighborhood.)
-
6
Replace your hammer club with the golf club of your choice and practice hitting some golf balls. If at any point your swing starts to falter and the ball slices or curves, repeat the previous steps until you've eradicated the problem.

Tips & Warnings
To find an elongated handle, go to your local hardware store and request an axe handle or long wooden dowel that can be shaped to fit the head of a hammer. Then insert the handle into the hammer head. Secure with additional tape if necessary.
