A power drill can easily be one of the most used power tools in your tool kit. In order for it to be a useful tool, the power drill needs to be in optimum operating condition. The good thing about power drills is they are relatively easy to maintain. Moreover, if you care for it properly, a power drill should work for many years.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Clean the power drill after each day's use. This simple act can help you maintain your power drill for many years. Blow any drill filings out of the crevices in the drill's handles. Wipe any grease off the body of the drill with a soft cloth. Make sure there are no cracks in the casing.

  2. Step 2

Plug the battery pack into a proper wall receptacle to charge it for the next use. Check the plug and cord every time you do this to make sure there is no damage to them. Also, make sure the contacts on the battery and the charger are clean. This makes sure the power drill gets the proper charge in a minimum amount of time.

  3. Step 3

Make sure you adjust the clutch properly. If you maintain the proper tension with the clutch, the drill won't have as much wear and tear.

  4. Step 4

Use sharp drill bits. Also use the correct drill bit for whatever substance you are drilling a hole into.

  5. Step 5

Set the correct high and low settings for whatever you are trying to drill. If you use the wrong setting, it can put unnecessary strain on the drill's motor. Be careful to never lug down the motor to the drill or you can do irreversible damage.
