How to Report Income Tax Fraud
Tax fraud is the intentional violation of filing income tax returns. Individuals do not pay the correct amount of taxes for employment, income or excise. These are all examples of tax fraud. Failure to pay the appropriate taxes causes problems to the society and tax administrators. Tax fraud is a felony and results in prison terms, paying a large fine or both.

Contact the Internal Revenue Service and follow the procedure to report fraud. Each state has different procedures for reporting fraud at the federal level.

Select the title "How Do You Report Suspected Tax Fraud Activity." Print the Form 3949-A and mail to the Internal Revenue Service Fresno, CA 93888.

Write a letter, if you can't access the printed the form. Include in the letter the person's name, address of person reporting, taxpayer or employer identification number or social security number.

Spell out a description of the fraud you're reporting, how many years the violation occurred, an estimate of the fraud amount and your personal information.

Check with your state or city, if the fraudulent claim applies to state or local taxes.

If you have access to documentation, enclose a copy with the information being sent to the Internal Revenue Service. Also maintain a copy for your records.
