Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Massage table
  • Towels
  • Sheet
  • Quiet room
  1. Step 1

Select a place to join a Tai Chi group that is not going to be a nightmare to get to. Remember that the point of a Tai Chi massage is to relax for both the therapist and the client.

  2. Step 2

Read about pressure points and the manipulation of the body before you go to your first massage class. Not everyone is comfortable with strangers so close to them. It is important to know what Tai Chi is about before embarking on such a career.

  3. Step 3

Learn about what a massage therapist does. What makes a Tai Chi massage different from other massages is that the therapist spends time getting spiritually prepared for the transference of energy from one person to the other.

  4. Step 4

Take off as much clothing as you are comfortable with and experience the spirituality of Tai Chi with a classmate or experienced therapist. Some of the massage will occur through the sheet, but even then, energy flows back and forth with every touch.

  5. Step 5

Communicate with the client about areas on their body they would like you to focus on. If you want the complete experience, you have to remember to take part in the delivery. Each part of the client's body will be touched in an attempt to release all the negative energy and replace that energy with your positive energy.

  6. Step 6

Adjust your breathing as you massage and work on the client's muscle tissue—you may even close your eyes. Feel the client's body muscles and joints reacting to the energy of your touch. The more you relax, the more healing energy the client will receive from you.

  7. Step 7

Block out disturbing thoughts during the Tai Chi massage. As the therapist, you will move from the client's face to their arms to their legs to their back and all the places in between--be in the moment as much as possible. Let the outside world go.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is important to be in the moment during the Tai Chi massage for the therapist and the client.
  • Don't put yourself in a position that makes you feel uncomfortable.
