How to Install a Cherry Bomb Muffler

The Cherry Bomb muffler is part of the exhaust system of a car. The purpose of the Cherry Bomb muffler is to reduce toxic emissions and increase the noise of the vehicle. The car noise is louder when pressure waves going in and out of the opening and closing of the engine's valves is unrestricted. The muffler affects the performance of the car.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Cherry bomb muffler kit
  • New gaskets
  • Ratchet set
  • Pipe grease

Step1
Get the car up on a hydraulic lift. You can prop the car up on jacks or ramps but for convenience, a lift is better.
Step2
Assess the shape of the tailpipe and the muffler. You will also want to look at the catalytic converter. If the whole exhaust system is rusted, replace it. You don't want to install a brand new Cherry Bomb muffler on an old rusty system.
Step3
Find the stock exhaust system and unbolt it from the back of the car. It is important you work your way forward instead of backwards. Some parts may be reusable — you don't want to ruin these parts. Only replace parts that are rusted — there is no need for you to replace the exhaust system if you don't need to.
Step4
Take the muffler system apart and remove the hangers if they are corroded and rusty—replace the hangers with new ones. Fit the Cherry Bomb muffler into the pipe from the catalytic converter.
Step5
Start at the front of the car—hang the Cherry Bomb muffler and then bolt it to the pipe. Don't tighten the bolts completely just yet.
Step6
Check the gaskets between the pipes and the muffler—if you want to use the old ones make sure they are the right size. It is best to install new gaskets. You want the noise to come from the Cherry Bomb not bad gaskets.
Step7
Tackle the project from the beginning once again. Go back now and tighten all the bolts, double-checking before you take the car off the lift and start it up.

Tips & Warnings

  • Order all the parts you need to replace before you take the exhaust system off the car.
  • You can use WD-40 to loosen the bolts if they are rusty. Air compressor tools are handy when working with rusted bolts.
  • Don't attempt to work on the exhaust system until the car is completely cooled down for at least a couple of hours.
  • Don't try and force the Cherry Bomb muffler on the pipe--use grease for a better slide.
