  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp. baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 3 tbsp. shortening
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 4 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Instructions

    • 1

      Bring 2 cups of water, the berries, and 1 1/2 cups of sugar to a boil.

      Measure the flour, baking powder, 1 tbsp. sugar and salt into a bowl. Add the shortening, then stir in the milk until the dough is consistent.

      Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the berries. Cover the pot, reduce the heat, and cook for 25 minutes with no stirring. Let the dumplings cool for a few minutes before serving them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Blueberry dumplings are hot when served so be careful when eating them or you might get burned. Blueberry juice is very hot and tends to burn skin quickly.
