A woven wire fence sometimes gets broken and requires welding to repair. Although there are other methods available for fixing a broken fence, such as weaving the fence back together with wire, welding seems to be the most secure way. Welding a broken woven wire fence isn't difficult as long as you are careful and follow a few simple rules.

  • Welding Wire

Weld a Broken Woven Wire Fence

  1. Step 1

Use a type of apparatus when welding your broken woven wire fence to include a pair of clamps and a pair of welding elements for holding and welding together the ends, mating the ends by a butt weld.

  2. Step 2

Weld with Oxy Mapp gas and a welding wire the same thickness as the fence wire. Keep the heat down to avoid melting the fence when trying to repair it.

  3. Step 3

Depending on how thick or thin the broken woven wire is, arc welding with an arc welder works well at sufficient amperage. Again, keep the heat down to avoid melting the wire.

  4. Step 4

Braising with a torch may be an option to weld your broken wire fence. If you do not own a torch, you may be able to rent one.

  5. Step 5

Use a self feeding spool gun that uses either gas, or flux core wire, similar to the "GoWeld" and the "Ready Welder". In the right configuration, these welders are capable of welding steel using a set of ordinary car batteries.

  6. Step 6

Weld your broken woven wire fence using a metal inert gas (MIG) welder. MIG welding uses electricity to melt and join pieces of metal together. MIG welding is referred to as the hot glue gun of welding. It is known as one of the easiest welding methods to learn.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask a welder if you need welding advice. There is no one better qualified than an expert in his field. Most professional welders have licenses to weld. They know what you need to weld your broken woven wire fence. So, if you want to get your job done right, ask.
  • Welding any metals together requires the perfect amount of heat, regardless of what is being welded. If the heat is to hot, the wire on your broken woven wire fence will melt. Make sure to use the right amperage in whatever welding method you choose.
