Things You'll Need:
- 2 by 4 board
- Masonry anchors
- Hammer
- Screwdriver
- Wire strippers
-
Step 1
Check the local codes in your area to see if a GFCI is required for sump pumps; even if not required, a ground-fault circuit interrupter is a good idea.
-
Step 2
Run wiring from the service panel to the general vicinity of the new pump, and leave a few feet of slack for ease of installation.
-
Step 3
Use masonry screws to mount a piece of 2-by-4 to the wall to serve as a base for the electrical box.
-
Step 4
Position the box high enough on the wall to avoid splashing from the operating pump, and run your electrical conduit to it.
-
Step 5
Install a grounded receptacle for the plug, wired to a 20 amp breaker. This is important for the proper operation of your pump.
-
Step 6
Plug in the pump and pour water in the sump. Check to be sure there are no leaks.
