Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Remove the outer shell or case of your robot every few months and clean out the inside by using a spray can of air. The inside of any electronic piece attracts dust and dander, which can build up and slow down your robot. By cleaning it fairly often you can remove the dust and keep it in working condition.
Step2
Place a small amount of cleaner made especially for electronics on the inside of the robot while you have the case off. This removes any of the stuck on dirt and debris that might still be on the interior even after you spray the air.
Step3
Clean the outside of the robot with rubbing alcohol and cotton balls. This removes any debris, dirt or dust that might be on the case or shell. If you leave any rubbing alcohol behind, it will naturally evaporate back into the air. Just place a small amount on a cotton ball and rub it on the case.
Step4
Keep your robot away from water, soda and any other liquids that weren’t discussed here. Even a small amount of liquid that seeps into your robot can destroy the electrical components. If you do get it wet, take the case off and try letting it air dry for a few days before attempting to use it.
Step5
Watch for any signs that your robot isn’t moving as fast as it used to or any signs that your controller might not be working or responding in the way it should. When you see any of these signs, take your robot to an electronics specialist who can properly diagnose the problem.
