How to Make Bathroom Mold Cleaner

Bathroom Mold. We’ve all had to deal with it at some time in our lives. The tiny spores creep into our houses and grow in the grout and the corners around the bathtub or shower. It’s black and ugly and once you have it it’s hard to get rid of. You can keep mold from taking up residence in your home by keeping it dry, but how can you keep your bathroom dry. You can’t stop bathing. The nature of a shower or bathtub is to be wet. So what can you do?There are many chemical cleaners on the market today that kill mold. The problem with these cleaners is that they are harmful to the environment. They also produce toxic chemicals that you don’t want your family to breathe in. So what are you to do? It seems like your choice is to breathe unhealthy mold spores or to breathe toxins. Well, those aren’t the only two choices. There are a lot of environmentally friendly products on the market today to kill mold. They tend to be more expensive than normal products. If you don’t want to spend the money buying them you can make your own.

Things You'll Need

• spray bottle
• tea tree essential oil
• hydrogen peroxide
• vinegar

Instructions

Tea Tree Oil Cleaner

1. Purchase an empty spray bottle. You can usually find them your local dollar store. If you can’t find them there try your local garden supply store. Empty spray bottles are a good thing to have on hand. You can use an old spray bottle that your store bought cleaning products came in if you want, but keep in mind that they’re covered with chemical residue.

2. Purchase some tea tree essential oil. Tea tree essential oil is a good disinfectant. It also kills mold spores.

3. Put two teaspoons of tea tree oil in your spray bottle.

4. Put two cups of water in your spray bottle.

5. Put the lid on and shake it up to mix it.

6. Spray this mixture on the moldy areas of your bathroom everyday and you should begin to see the mold fade.

Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaner

1. If you don’t want to use tea tree oil you can also make a good mold killer out of hydrogen peroxide. Mix one part hydrogen peroxide and one part water in your spray bottle.

2. Shake it up well to make sure it’s mixed.

3. Spray this mixture on the moldy areas of your bathroom twice daily. Make sure the area is dry before you spray it on.

Vinegar Cleaner

1. You can also use a vinegar solution to kill mold. Mix one part water and one part vinegar in a spray bottle.

2. Shake it up to make sure it’s mixed.

3. Spray the mixture on moldy areas of your bathroom once daily.

Tips & Warnings

• If you're pregnant avoid using tea tree oil.

• Vinegar used on tile grout over long periods of time can weaken the grout.
