How to Paint Transportation Themed Artwork for Child's Room
Decorating a child's room can be rewarding for both parent and child. If you have decided to go with a transportation themed room, there is a variety of bedding and curtains to choose from. There are also a ton of great paint colors and techniques that can be applied to the walls as well. Once the basics have been accomplished, it is time to accessorize. One way to add a personal touch to your child's room is to paint your own transportation themed artwork. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 3 (12 x 16-inch) Stretched canvases (or whatever size fits your wall best)
- Red, green, yellow and black craft paint
- 4 Foam brushes
- Styrofoam plate
- White paint pen
- Masking tape
- Small toy truck with authentic tires
Instructions

1
Paint the entire surface of each of the three canvases. Place a dollop of paint on a Styrofoam plate and use a foam brush to paint one canvas red, one green, and one yellow. Allow to dry and apply a second coat of paint to each.

2
Paint the wheels of the toy tuck black and drive it over each canvas once the base color has dried. You may want to do a test run first on a piece of paper to be sure the toy truck you have chosen makes visible tire tracks. Let the paint dry.

Measure 1.5 inches in from the edge of the canvas and apply masking tape starting at the 1.5 inch spot. Do this for all four sides of the canvas, creating a border that will be painted black. Do this to all three canvases.

Paint the 1.5 inch border black. Be sure to paint the edges too. Again, you may want to apply two coats. Do this to all 3 canvases. Wait until the black paint has dried to remove the tape. Your canvas should now be the main color (red, green, or yellow) with black tracks running through it and a black border or matting around it representing a road.

Tips & Warnings
When placing masking tape on the canvas, be sure the edges are straight and smooth to prevent bleeding of the paint.
You may choose to leave the transportation themed artwork you've created for your child's room unframed or you may frame it.
