How to Perform a 360 Jumping Spinning Back Kick in Soo Bahk Do
Soo Bahk Do was invented by Master Hwang Kee in 1945. As a boy he once saw a man in a marketplace be accosted by several off-duty soldiers. Though the soldiers used their rifles as clubs, the lone man succeeded in defending himself as well as incapacitating the soldiers, some permanently. It was at that point that he decided he wanted to devote himself to the martial arts. He learned the techniques of his native Korea and then spent many years traveling throughout China and learning the hand-to-hand techniques of the native Chinese. He developed an aggressive combat system combining the elaborate spinning kicks Korean martial arts are known for with the circular and flowing close-quarters grappling of Chinese Wushu. This guide will provide the steps necessary to perform a 360 Jumping Spinning Back Kick in Soo Bahk Do.

Performing A 360 Jumping Spinning Back Kick
-
1
Begin the approach for the kick when you are several yards from your opponent. If you can get a running start, the chances of completing the 360 spin and landing safely increase. Run toward your opponent.
-
2
Plant your right foot turned slightly outward roughly four feet from your opponent and push off hard while turning your body clockwise.
-
-
3
Raise your left knee to your chest as you begin the jump spin to help turn your body in mid air and align yourself for the kick. Lean forward and pull in your right leg to help stay balanced shortly after jumping.
-
4
Drive your right leg out hard toward your opponent just as the spin brings the right side of your body around. Your toes should point in a line horizontal to the ground and your heel should be the point of impact. You should be less than one foot from the target when you kick, so make sure to continue to drive through the target to ensure the blow lands with as much force as possible. Your opponent should be sent flying backward several feet.
-
5
Drop your left foot back down to the ground immediately after kicking the target, follow this with your right. You should land with your left side facing your opponent, ready to attack again if need be.

Tips & Warnings
These instructions are for a right hand/foot dominant martial artist, if you are left hand/foot dominant than reverse the position of your hands and feet. This is a technique a martial artist will use when they have plenty of room to run toward an opponent in order to obtain the necessary momentum he/she would need to complete the attack.
Do not become discouraged if you are unable to execute this move immediately. It requires a great deal of physical strength and a fine sense of balance. This is an advanced kick that many would find difficult to complete. If you are fighting a live opponent rather than striking a heavy practice bag make sure to pull your kick short or you risk doing serious harm to the opponent.
