Every cat owner can use a cat gift basket. A gift basket is a welcome gift for a friend who just adopted a new cat. It is a nice gift for a catsitter because of the handy things you can pack in for cat-sitting chores. And sometimes a friend is not well and could use some extra goodies to keep their cat amused until they recover. This is a fun task with gifts to entertain the cat and owner. Here are tips to help you fill that gift basket.

Things You'll Need:

  • Basket or bag
  • Toys
  • Cat-theme towel
  • Small cans of cat food
  • Pet Grass
  • Musical CD

How to Make a Cat Gift Basket

  1. Step 1

Choose a basket big enough to hold the cat after the goodies come out or buy a big shopping bag-sized gift bag. Cats love to curl up in baskets and play in bags. If you are on a tight budget, use an ordinary brown paper grocery bag.

  2. Step 2

Toss in a handful of inexpensive and colorful cat toys. Balls, big jingle bells, catnip mice and feathered lures are great fun. Paint faces on plastic ping-pong or plastic golf balls.

  3. Step 3

Feed the cat. Buy cat food in small cans or pouches. Cats get finicky and your friend may need a different food for the days the cat won't eat. Add a treat bag or pet grass, which comes in its own container and is ready to grow by the cat bowl or in a kitchen window.

  4. Step 4

Give the gift of music. Buy a nature sounds CD with birds, waterfalls and other sounds. Many cats are soothed by nature sounds or soft music. Some cat owners put the CDs on constant play while they are away at work.

  5. Step 5

Line the basket or bag with a small bath towel or cat-theme kitchen towels. Every pet owner needs a handy towel for wiping faces and paws. Carefully pack your gift items in the towel. Add tissue if desired for the cat to pull out. Put a paw-friendly ribbon on the outside and you are done. Good work! It's a purr-fect gift basket.

on 6/21/2008 Know the pet! Check out organic stuff. Lots of pets cats and dogs are developing chicken and other allergies that their owners don't know about.
