Erectile dysfunction, otherwise known as ED or impotence, is a condition wherein a man cannot achieve an erection during sex. Erectile dysfunction has a variety of causes, including aging, hypertension, diabetes, obesity and injury. Men with erectile dysfunction can try a variety of options to treat their conditions. Most men can find a way to achieve an erection in spite of having ED. Here are some tips to help you manage your erectile dysfunction and regain a normal sex life.

  1. Step 1

    Schedule an appointment with your doctor. Talk to your doctor to determine the cause of your erectile dysfunction.

    Take any medications prescribed by your doctor. Erectile dysfunction medications are taken in preparation for sex. Viagra, Cialis and Levitra are all popular erectile dysfunction medications. These medications work by creating more blood flow into the penis allowing you to attain an erection.

  3. Step 3

    Consider sex therapy if there is not a physical cause for your condition. This can help you overcome any psychological barriers you may be facing.

  4. Step 4

    Treat any other medical conditions that you might have. High blood pressure and diabetes, for instance, can cause problems with impotence, and when these conditions are fixed, the ED may also be fixed.

  5. Step 5

    Consider using a vacuum pump to help you achieve an erection artificially. The vacuum pump creates a vacuum around the penis to draw blood into the organ and create an erection.
