When installing metal doors, it is best to use a magnetic weather strip because a metal door with a magnetic strip will form a tighter seal and allow less air to pass around the doors. Cold and hot air are often lost via the weather stripping on doors, so upgrading the weather stripping with a magnetic door gasket will translate into a large saving in energy costs.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Three strips of 7 ft. magnetic weather stripping
  • Hammer
  1. Step 1

Pull out existing weather stripping from door groove.

  2. Step 2

Cut lengths of the newly purchased magnetic stripping to cover the top, bottom, and vertical edges of the door. Measure each edge in order to cut the stripping to exactly the right size.

  3. Step 3

Push the stripping into groove on doorframe with magnetic side facing the door.

  4. Step 4

Cut and install top piece last.

  5. Step 5

Close door and check for seal. If you cut the sizes correctly, you should not have any gaps or see light between the door and the frame.
