How to Manage Mucous Cyst

Mucous cysts can appear on the inside of the lower lip, walls of the mouth and on the tongue at any time for no particular reason. If you have an infection or a habit of biting the inside of your cheek, mucous cysts may appear. Usually they disappear on their own, but if they linger for more than two weeks, you should consult a physician.

How to Manage Mucous Cysts

1. Clean your mouth using mouth wash. Make sure that you brush your teeth and rinse with mouth wash at least twice a day to prevent bacterial buildup. Even if you take these precautions, mucous cysts can still appear.

2. Examine the inside of your mouth. If you see small white spots on your lower lip or on the walls of your mouth, then you may have mucous cysts. While you shouldn't be immediately concerned about them, they may become a source of discomfort. If the cysts don't disappear after a week or two, see your physician to have them removed properly. Never attempt to remove cysts yourself as you could cause further infection.

3. Remove any piercings you have in your mouth if cysts appear. Many times cysts are caused by bacteria that becomes trapped between the piercing and your tongue or lower lip.

4. Mucous cysts can be removed by popping them with a sterile needle. Your physician will be able to so easily without causing damage to surrounding tissue.

5. If you have frequent outbreaks, visit your physician. There may other health issues that are causing cysts to appear.
