If you have a wound to your neck, you should take this quite seriously. If you are bleeding profusely from the neck, call 911. There are major arteries in your neck that can be life-threatening if they are punctured. Even without profuse bleeding, any neck wound can be serious.
Stop your neck from bleeding immediately. The sooner you can stop the bleeding, the sooner you can start the healing. If you are unable to stop the bleeding from your neck within a minute or so, call for medical help. Excessive bleeding is not something to take lightly. Bleeding can usually be stopped by placing a towel or paper towel over the wound and applying pressure.
Leave any impaled objects in your neck. Do not attempt to remove it on your own. Seek medical attention to have the object removed. Stop the bleeding around the wound. Try not to move the object at all if you can help it.
Wash any cuts or scrapes on your neck with a mild soap and water. Clean the external part of the wound completely.
Rub the wound with an antibiotic ointment. This should feel soothing to your wound. It will help clean the area of the wound to prevent any type of infection and will start the healing process.
Place a bandage on the spot on your neck that was wounded. Fit the wound with the correct size of bandage. You want the bandage to be large enough so the gauze covers the entire wound.
