Step 1
Purchase a first aid kit or put one together yourself. If you assemble one yourself include such necessary items as bandages, gauze, first aid ointment, pain reliever, anti- bacterial wash, ace bandage, tweezers and scissors.
-
Step 2
Keep your cell phone charged at all times in order to call for help. Program important numbers into your phone ahead of time so you have emergency contacts right at your fingertips.
-
Step 3
Keep the spare tire properly inflated in case of a flat. Also include a safety triangle or flares, an emergency flasher, and a reflective HELP sign.
-
Step 4
Purchase a hand-cranked radio and flashlight. These are really great because they never need batteries and can be recharged just by cranking the handle.
-
Step 5
Bottles of drinking water and non perishable food items are essential. A package of wet wipes, a roll of paper towels, and a small bottle of hand sanitizer are also good to have along.
-
Step 6
Jumper cables, car jack, and a pair of heavy work gloves.
-
Step 7
For winter travel be sure to include a portable shovel, blanket, candles and matches, a traction mat, and a bag of sand or cat litter.

on 6/27/2009 I never thought of some of those, thanks. My kit would have to include quarters for the air pump at a gas station. DH knows why ;)
