Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Friendly bacteria in the intestines can keep "bad" bacteria from causing illness or disease. Probiotics were found to show a better response to infection as well as improve nutrient absorption in studies involving pigs and cows.
Step2
A similar research study also conducted by the Agriculture Research Service found that probiotics used in poultry helped to fight illness and disease such as Salmonella and Campylobacter.
Step3
The National Institute of Health reports that people use probiotics to prevent and treat certain illness and support general health, but that there is limited evidence to support the use of probiotics. But there is strongly encouraging evidence for the use of probiotics to treat diarrheal illnesses such as rotavirus.
