This is the perfect recipe for homemade chocolate chip cookies!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • shortening
  • butter or margarine
  • granulated sugar
  • brown sugar
  • eggs
  • vanilla
  • flour
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • semisweet chocolate chips
  • large mixing bowl
  • hand held mixer
  • at least two cookie sheets
  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees

  2. Step 2

    Mix thoroughly the following ingredients:

    2/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup of butter or margarine
    1 cup of granulated sugar
1 cup of brown sugar (packed)
    2 eggs
    2 teaspoons of vanilla

  3. Step 3

Stir in the following remaining ingredients:

    3 cups of flour
    1 teaspoon of baking soda
    1 teaspoon of salt
1 12 ounce package of chocolate chips

  4. Step 4

When cookie dough is well mixed, drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheet. Each drop should be about 2 inches apart. It is helpful to scoop the dough into the teaspoon and use a knife to push it off the spoon.

  5. Step 5

Bake for about eight minutes, or until cookie is golden brown. For a softer cookie, bake just until edges are a darker brown.

  6. Step 6

Cool slightly before removing cookies from the sheet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use hand held mixer to help with mixing. This mixture should not be lumpy.
  • When adding the flour, it is helpful to add one cup at a time. This will prevent the flour from spilling out of the bowl, and will make stirring easier as the mixture becomes thicker.
  • Makes about 7 dozen cookies
  • If using self rising flour, omit baking soda and salt
