Things You'll Need:
- A postive outlook
- Determination
- Friends & Family
-
Step 1
Acceptance. The first thing you need to do is accept the fact that you are now not in a relationship with this person. It may be hard to do at first, but this means that you do not have a need to talk to them everyday (this includes Phoning, IMing, Emailing, and visiting!) You should keep your distance. Even if you have decided to stay friends you BOTH need some time before you can work on a friendship.
-
Step 2
Talk about it. No, this does not mean with your ex. This simply means do not keep your feelings inside. Talk about everything with your friends, family, co-workers, etc. You may realize that the relationship had some things in it that you are glad you're now away from.
-
Step 3
Keep Busy. Keeping busy could range from taking on more hours at work to finding a new activity you would like to try. The more physical the activity the better. When you exercise you release endorphins in your body and releasing those endorphins makes you feel happier.
-
Step 4
Realize that you are better off. This may be the hardest step to do, but you must take into consideration that you broke up for a reason. You can find someone much more compatible with you. Don't jump back into the dating scene too soon though. Your heart is already broken and it may take a while for that to heal.

Step 5
Make goals. Focus on you. Whether you want to score that A in history class, or get a promotion at work make a goal for yourself. The more goals the better as long as you try to work at all of them. When these goals are met you will feel like you have accomplished something.
