How to Download Classic Games for Nintendo Wii

The Nintendo Wii offers users the ability to download classic games from some of their favorite classic consoles, including the NES, Super NES, Sega Genesis, Turbo Grafx 16, Neo Geo and Nintendo 64. In just a few easy steps you can have your old school gaming fix.

a Nintendo Wii
a credit card
Wii Points

It's easy to relive classic gaming moments with the Nintendo Wii!

Step 1

Purchase Wii Points. You can buy cards with specific amounts of Wii Points from most electronics and toy retailers. Anyone that sells Nintendo Wii components will have them. Points can also be purchased directly through your console using a credit card.
Step 2

Visit the Wii Shop Channel on your Wii's main menu. In the default mode, it should be on your screen's top right.
Step 3

In the Wii Shop, visit the Virtual Console.
Step 4

Browse games at the Virtual Console. You'll find them listed by console, popularity and date of release.
Step 5

Select your game and click "download." If you have not already added your Wii Points to your console here you will be prompted to do so. The game will download to your storage device and will be available at the main menu for you to play.

Tips & Warnings

If you run out of memory, don't worry. Games you download once from the Virtual Console are always available for you to redownload, meaning you can delete a game and bring it back later if you need the memory.
It's not just classic games that are available on the Wii these days. Nintendo has just launched its Wii Ware service, which features downloadable software developed specifically for the Wii console. It is also available through the Wii Shop channel.
