How to Lead a Sivananda Yoga Class

Yoga is one of the most popular and most beneficial workouts in the world. It has health benefits (mental and physical) beyond that of any other activity. There are numerous kinds of yoga and possibilities of more. To become an instructor you should be well versed in the practice and be excited to do yoga everyday.

  • Sivananda Yoga Teachers Training Course
  1. Step 1

    Take yoga classes, all sorts of yoga classes with different variations, styles and teachers. You can learn a lot about teaching by watching others teach and instruct. Study the differences between the styles so you will be able to explain it to students who might ask.

  2. Step 2

    Enroll in the Sivananda Yoga Teachers Training Program. Go through the entire program and learn a much as you can. Pass the program to receive accreditation and certification to teach.

  3. Step 3

    Search for a place looking to hire a yoga instructor. Offer to lead a class one time for free to show them your skills and style. Get hired!

  4. Step 4

    Start the 90 minute class with deep breathing relaxation techniques. Sit crossed legged on the floor, back sitting up straight and breathe in and out deeply with eyes shut. Verbally coach the students on their breathing technique and remind them of pointers, you'll have both beginner and experienced practitioners likely and you have to cater to them all.

  5. Step 5

    Continue with the Sun Salutation sequences. Following this do the twelve asana meditations. End the class with flexibility variations which you should select based upon the skills of the students in your class. Good luck and have fun!
