How to Identify the Symptoms of Viral Meningitis

  1. Step 1

Report any rashes to your health care professional. Rashes are a sign of meningitis and should be examined by your doctor as soon as possible.

  2. Step 2

See your doctor if you have any fever or vomiting. These are signs of viral meningitis and since they can also be caused by many other conditions, they should be addressed by your doctor.

  3. Step 3

Tell your doctor if you experience a stiff neck or unusual tiredness. These are symptoms of many conditions, but are also symptoms of viral meningitis.

  4. Step 4

Have your doctor look at your throat if you experience any soreness. This is another sign and your doctor will be able to determine what is causing the sore throat.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid mosquito bites to prevent viral meningitis.
  • Frequent hand washing will help prevent viral meningitis.
  • Viral meningitis is usually mild and symptoms only last about a week. Bacterial meningitis, however, can be deadly. If you experience any of the symptoms longer than a week or if they are excessive, see your doctor immediately.
