There are several ways to make natural window cleaners with common household products. These cleaners will leave your windows shining and streak-free without the worry of having toxic cleaners in your home. Read on to learn how to make a natural window cleaner.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 1/2 tsp. of dish detergent to two cups of water. Commercial cleaners can leave a residue on your windows. The addition of dish detergent to this natural formula will cut the residue and allow the vinegar to do its job of leaving a sparkling window without any streaks.

  2. Step 2

Spray the window with the vinegar and water mixture. Be sure to get the corners where dirt and grime collect.

  3. Step 3

Wipe the window with inexpensive paper towels or use old newspapers. Crumple the paper and wipe clean. Be sure to apply a little pressure here, but be careful to avoid so much pressure you may break a window.

  4. Step 4

Fill a spray bottle with plain club soda. Spray the windows and wipe clean with paper towels or newspapers.

  5. Step 5

Try using vinegar and rubbing alcohol for a quick drying window solution. Mix one cup of rubbing alcohol, one cup of water and 1 tbsp. of vinegar. Fill a spray bottle and shake to mix. Spray down the windows and dry with paper towels or crumpled newspaper.

  6. Step 6

Use a solution of vinegar, alcohol and lemon juice. Mix 1/4 cup of vinegar, 2 tbsp. of lemon juice, a dab of liquid dish detergent to 1 gallon of water. Use in a spray bottle or apply with a saturated cloth and wipe dry with newspapers.

  7. Step 7

Mix 2 tbsp. of cornstarch, 1/2 cup household ammonia and 1/2 cup white vinegar to one gallon of warm water. Mix thoroughly to dissolve the cornstarch. Fill a spray bottle and spray down the windows. Dry as usual with newspapers or paper towels. Ammonia must be stored out of the reach of small children, but it does not leave a toxic residue.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wash one side of your windows in an up and down motion and the other side to side. It will be easy to tell which side of the window any streaks are on.
  • Always store ammonia and rubbing alcohol out of reach of children.
