Things You'll Need

  • 4-inch drain tile
  • Corner fittings
  • Trencher
  • 2-inch washed gravel
  • Red rosin paper or building paper

Instructions

    • 1

      Measure the perimeter of your home before purchasing 4-inch drain tile (pipe). Drain tile has pre-drilled holes along its length.

      Calculate how many corner fittings you will need as well.

      Dig alongside the footing where the drainage tile will be placed.

      Dump 2-inches of washed gravel into the length of the drainage tile placement area.

      Place the drainage tile, holes facing down, over the gravel ensuring that all corners are connected snugly.

      Cover the drainage tile with washed gravel at least one foot beyond the outside edge of the footing and six inches above the top of the footing.

      Place red rosin paper or building paper on top of the gravel ensuring paper is held tight against the foundation wall.

      Cover the pipe with dirt to hold it in place.
