How to Explore Oregon Caves National Monument

If you are planning a trip to Oregon, you might want to include a visit to Oregon Caves National Monument in your agenda. The cave and trails at the monument offer some spectacular glimpses of nature.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • sturdy, comfortable walking shoes
  • sweatshirt or jacket
  • tickets for cave tour
  • water
  • hat

    Take A Cave Tour

  1. Step 1

    Tours are available from the end of March through the end of November on a first come, first served basis.

  2. Step 2

    Tours last about 90 minutes. During the tour you will see cave formations, marble walls, bats and other cave-dwelling creatures.

  3. Step 3

    Wear sturdy walking shoes for the tour. Cave temperature is 44 degrees so a jacket or sweatshirt is recommended.

  4. Take a hike

  5. Step 1

    There are plenty of trails at Oregon Caves National Monument. Talk to a park ranger about the condition and difficulty of any trails before embarkng on a hike.

  6. Step 2

    Make sure you have plenty of water with you.

  7. Step 3

    Wear comfortable sturdy shoes and a hat to provide protection from the sun.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cave temperature is 44 degrees. A jacket or sweatshirt is recommended.
  • Children must be at least 42 inches tall to tour the cave.
  • Pets are not allowed.
  • The cave tour can be strenuous. The entire route includes more than 500 stairs and a gradual climb of 230 feet. Visitors have to duck through some passageways.
  • Not recommended for people with heart conditions or for people who have trouble breathing or walking.
