How to Draw a Spider

How to Draw a Spider thumbnail
Spiders are fun to draw.

Spiders are creepy, crawly and make for great ceiling decorations, especially right over your bed. You can draw a spider with ease, making him as creepy or as comical as you like. Spiders are easy to recognize because they have eight legs, that’s the only constant. The rest is up to you when you draw a spider. Here’s how.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Draw some spider eyeballs. You can use two to be traditional, but some spiders are rumored to have 800 eyes. Make his whole head full, if you wish, or draw two simple circles to start him out.

    • 2

Add the spider head and body. You can give him a thin waist, like a black widow, or make him one big lump, like a tarantula. The mouth is also optional, as some spiders look creepier if their faces only contain glowering eyes.

    • 3

Fill in the head and body. Black is always good for spiders. You can also give his main body some design so he’s not a boring spider. Swirling lines look good as designs, as do polka dots. Just make sure he doesn’t end up looking more like a ladybug.

    • 4

Illustrate the fine details, such as shading on his body and a fine row of teeth. You can also add spider eyelashes, eyeglasses or eye patches.

    • 5

Start his legs. Draw eight dots and eight little lines to serve as feet.

    • 6

Finish him off with the rest of the details. Use thin lines to connect the dots and feet to the body. Feel free to bend a leg or two for fun. You can also add an unfortunate fly in one of the spider’s hands, as if he is just getting ready for lunch.

Tips & Warnings

  • For variation, you can make his legs thicker and add some designs in them. You can also add shoes. Spiders wear tap shoes well.
