Start by thinking of how many people you want to invite. When you have the amount of people that you would like to invite along with the amount of people that will actually be attending, you can start planning the menu and how much food and beverages you will need. Make sure to pick a location that is convenient to everyone but that also has a good amount of shade in case it gets too hot. Advice your guests to wear comfortable clothes as you will be sitting on the ground on a picnic blanket.

Make sure you have a big enough picnic basket or cooler to hold all of your food. Also start with basic supplies that you know you will need such as napkins, plates, cups and utensils. Make sure you also have a big enough picnic blanket.

Think about the food as being as easy as possible instead of having a large spread filled with tons of food. For appetizers, have a choice of between two or three types. Appetizers are easy to make and they are small so they will be easy to carry and transport. For the main food you can pick up chicken wings already cooked from the store and for a second and third main dish you can have hot dogs. Both are easy to prepare, easy to transport and they are inexpensive. For dessert, think a simple pie or even cupcakes. You want to make sure that you bring items that are easy to transport and won't need a lot of items that need to go with it. The easier the food is to make and bring the better.

After you sent out the picnic blanket in your chosen location and you sent out the food, set out some bug repellent along the edge of the blanket to keep bugs away. Don't use any type of candles as they can easily be tipped over.

Since garbage cans aren't always readily available make sure that you bring a garbage bag so that the trash can be thrown in there instead of on the ground. Take it with you when you leave if you have to.
