How to Treat High Arch

High arches are a genetic condition and can make walking barefoot or exercising very uncomfortable, and in some cases, downright painful. While there is no miracle treatment to make them flatten out there are some things you can do to better manage them and eventually flatten them somewhat.

      Place your right foot on an exercise band. Put the ball of your foot on the band and press against it. Hold for three counts then release and let the band relax. Repeat ten times then switch feet.

      See a physical therapist. Work with your therapist during your session on making your feet more flexible and stronger. This is will increase their ability to flatten out over time without causing pain. Ask your therapist for exercises you can do at home.

      Place a small rubber ball on the ground. Wrap your foot around it and pick it up with your foot. Hold for a few seconds. Release the ball. Repeat ten times on each foot.

      Place arch supports on all your shoes. These come in various sizes according to level of the arch. Start with one that fits your arch perfectly. As you do the exercises and your feet become stronger lower the arch supports. This will take a great deal of time, most likely months, but with consistent training and effort you can flatten your feet and reduce the pain of high arches.

  • Go through the steps slowly and take your time to treat your arches

  • Don't wear flat footwear without some supports
