When you use a software program frequently in Windows, you may want to pin that icon to the start menu. Pinning a software icon to the start menu enables quick and easy access with the click of a mouse. The item will reside on the start menu even through start up and shut down. Here is how you can pin an icon

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Microsoft Windows
  • Start Menu
  • Software
  1. Step 1

Decide which icon you would like to quickly access on the start menu. You may choose more than one, however, they may have to be displayed in two columns if there are several.

Right click on the icon, whether it on your computer desktop or actually on the C: drive (hard drive). The software icon may already be located in the start menu, however, you still need to pin it to make it stay permanently. This will bring up the properties menu, also demonstrated within this article.

  3. Step 3

Scroll down and select "pin to start menu" and the icon will appear each time you access the start menu. If the "pin to start menu" choice is not shown, or it states "unpin from start menu," then the icon is already pinned to the start menu. This is shown in a photo in this article.

  4. Step 4

Log off and switch users, as you will need to repeat the preceding steps if you want additional icons pinned to start menus for other users.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can pin an icon to the start menu regardless of where it is located in your computer.
  • If you accidentally unpin an icon from the start menu, just right click on the desired program and select "pin to start menu"
