Picking a name for a child is a very special activity. You may want total control over it or you may choose to ask others for input too. Name choices are abundant. You may want a name that reflects your ethnic heritage, your favorite city, your favorite relative, or a name you have just always liked.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Decide upon a name for your child that brings you joy. Pick a name that you think you and your child will like. Check out lists of baby names on the Internet to get ideas.
Step2
Ask relatives for ideas for names. Ask them if there were any unusual family names long ago on the family tree.
Step3
Choose a name that reflects your heritage. It could be a family name, the city where long ago relatives were born, or the spot where your parents met.
Step4
Select a name that relates to your relationship with your spouse. Give the child the name of the month when you met or married. Or you could choose a name that relates to where you spent your honeymoon.
Step5
Give yourself adequate time before finalizing the name for the baby. Write down the possible names and mull them over.

Tips & Warnings

  • Get a book of baby names or read one online.
  • Decide whether you want your child to have a traditional name or a unique name.
