Even though many homes have closet sliding doors, there are many people who prefer French Bifold doors instead. Not only do French Bifold doors give the home a comfortable look and feel once they're installed, but they have a very practical functional value as well. If you need to install these types of bifold doors for your home, use these directions to get the job done!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • French Bifold doors and door knobs
  • Door Hinges
  • Pivot Plate, pins, and locking arms
  • Door tracks and included track hardware
  • Drill
  • Screws
  • Pencil
  1. Step 1

Place some sort of identifier, such as a pencil mark, on each of your French Bifold doors to show which door is being put on which side and also to remember the sides of the doors.

  2. Step 2

Mount the hinges on each of the French bifold doors by lining them up in the correct position and screwing them into the doors using the drill and screws. (Note: the average suggested place for hinge mounting is approximately seven inches from the top and bottom of the doors.)

  3. Step 3

Install the pivot plates on both of the outer French bifold doors by screwing them into proper position with the drill.

  4. Step 4

Mount and attach the locking arms that were included in the door kit. The locking arms should be installed to the inner doors at the tops and bottoms. Read further installation instructions that came with the door manual that are brand and door specific.

  5. Step 5

Place the French Bifold top and bottom door tracks against the door frame and floor, respectively. Carefully screw the top door track into position in the top of the door frame, but don't affix the bottom piece of the door track just yet.

  6. Step 6

Hang both sides of the French Bifold doors.

  7. Step 7

Slide the pin hardware that came packaged with the door kit into the pivot plates at the top of the doors and twist the pivot plate locking mechanisms to secure and fasten the doors.

  8. Step 8

Screw the bottom parts of the door tracks into position with the drill.

  9. Step 9

Install the French Bifold door knobs into position by using the drill to screw them into place. For this Step be sure to follow the exact directions supplied by the door manufacturer.

  10. Step 10

Open and close the French Bifold doors several times to make sure that everything is correctly installed. If any minor adjustments need to be made, this is the time to finish them.
