Consult a passport agency for the current guidelines needed for passport photos. This can be accomplished by visiting your local post office and asking for the information or finding the information on the Internet.

Attach your digital camera to a tripod or set it on a flat surface. Your camera must be stable so the photo will develop clearly, the passport agency will not accept a blurry shot. Be sure that the height is at your eye level and have the camera two feet in front of you.

Fill the room with light. Regulations state there cannot be any shadows on the face or behind your body in the photo. Turning overhead lights on as well as bringing in unshaded lamps and putting them on the sides of you. This will fill out the room and amply light your face.

Face forward with a white background directly behind you. The passport agency will not accept any profile or off center shots of the head. This means you should be looking directly into the camera lens when the picture is taking.

Shrink the size of the photo down so that it is two inches by two inches. This is a regulation in order to make sure the photo transfers to the passport properly. Also be sure that only your neck and head are visible in the picture.
