Step 1

Roll a piece of colored clay into a long cylinder, just larger than the diameter of a nickel, trying to keep width consistent throughout. You can compare the size to the inside portion of a poker chip.

Step 2

Create the dotted lines characteristic to professional poker chips. Roll out the strips of clay in the color or colors that you would like and cut the strips with a razor. They should be the same size that you would like the final dots to be. Press the strips firmly into the larger cylinder making sure to eliminate all air bubbles.

Step 3

Use a rolling pin to roll out a thin layer of clay in the color you would like the outside of your poker chip. Wrap the clay loosely around the cylinder, overlapping the edges and cut through both layers carefully with a razor. Press the clay sheet onto the outside of the cylinder, being careful not to stretch the clay, eliminating air bubbles as you go.

Step 4

Lightly score the cylinder with a knife or window scraper where you want to cut each chip, then slice the cane. If you are using stamps to impress images on the chips, do it now. Place each new poker chip between two actual poker chips, pressing lightly, to create the indentations.

Step 5

Bake the new sliced and indented chips on a cookie sheet and put them in the oven. Bake according to the instructions for your specific polymer clay.

Step 6

Embellish your chips with stamps and embossment ink.

Tip

Avoid wooden rolling pins, they stick to the clay.

When working with white clay and strong colors never let the white clay touch your hands or your tools without cleaning them first, as strong colors quickly carry over to the white.
