How to Teach Preschool at Home

  1. Step 1

Teach your preschool child at home to tie his shoes, to fasten and unfasten buttons, and to wash his hands by himself. These are some of the simple things that are taught in preschool.

  2. Step 2

Teach the child his ABC’s. Start with singing the ABC song. Point to the letters as you sing it. Read books like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. which kids love.

  3. Step 3

Read books to your preschool child. Set a certain schedule where you sit and read books at a certain time of day. Sit on the couch or bed and get comfortable while reading to your preschool child at home.

  4. Step 4

Teach your preschool child numbers. Start with one and move to another number every two or three days. Move to the next number only when your preschool child has mastered the one before that.

  5. Step 5

Include art in your preschool. Allow the child to finger paint, create with play dough and color. Print simple craft ideas from the internet and have your child involved in it.

  6. Step 6

Make sure your preschool child has enough outdoor play. Preschool children usually have outdoor play everyday that they are in school. Some only attend preschool three times a week, so make sure that your preschool child has outdoor play at least three times a week. It does not need to be anything special. Just let them enjoy the outdoors.

  7. Step 7

Plan some simple field Trips for your preschool child. Visit the fire station, an apple orchard or orange grove, library or zoo. Get other home schooled preschools involved so you can go as a group.

  8. Step 8

Have fun singing the days of the week song with your preschool child. Sing the song to the tune of “The Adams Family”. “Here is how you sing it: Days of the Week (Clap, Clap) Days of the Week (Clap Clap) Days of the week, days of the week, days of the week (Clap, clap). A Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, A Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, A Saturday and Sunday, These are the days of the week (Clap, Clap) and begin again. This is a fun way to teach your preschool child the days of the week.

Tips & Warnings
  • • Set up play dates with other preschoolers so that your child will learn to socialize with other children his age.
  • • Teaching doesn’t have to be every day but at least three days a week.

on 8/18/2009 I love the Adam's Family song tune for teaching the days of the week. I love teaching my son preschool at home. It's really easy. I use play as a way to teach colors, shapes etc. My 4 yr old is also picking up letter recognition. Each week I go over 1 letter and keep pointing it out on the books we read, signs, cereal boxes etc. Repetition really works and so do songs!
