Instructions

  1. Learning to Sew Pillowcase Seams

    • 1
Pillowcase fabric comes in many colors

Remove the pillow from the pillowcase before you attempt to repair it.

    • 2
      You can sew pillowcase covers

Lay the pillowcase flat on your table or work surface. You might want to spray-starch and iron the pillowcase, especially if the fabric is slippery, like satin or silk.

    • 3
Body pillow pillowcase seams are long

Mark the split seam on the pillowcase fabric with a piece of chalk or a pencil, so that you know what area to sew.

    • 4

Begin to sew the pillowcase starting 1/2" before the split seam and finishing 1/2" after. By sewing past the ends of the split, you are ensuring that the seam won't split further or come even more unraveled. If this is a body pillow pillowcase, you could be sewing for several inches or more.

    • 5

Turn the pillowcase right-side out and check your seam. If it needs touching up, now is the time to do it. Otherwise, you can simply wash the pillowcase fabric and put the pillow back in.

Tips & Warnings

  • Using straight pins to keep your pillowcase fabric aligned is a good idea on longer tears, like those that might be found on the seam of a body pillow pillowcase.

  • Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines when using a sewing machine to repair pillowcase seams.
