Step 1
Select a Mother Goose nursery rhyme, or use elements from all of your favorite rhymes. Paint walls a light cream in the middle, shading to blue toward the ceiling. Shade to green or brown going toward the floor. Add details such as rocks, haystacks, trees, houses, or a giant shoe, depending which rhyme you chose.
-
Step 2
Place rocker in a corner. Have a lamp or light fixture nearby, out of the child's reach but providing sufficient light for play and comfortable reading. If the child is an infant or toddler, use an adult size rocker so that you and your child can snuggle comfortably.Place tufted cushion on rocker seat. Add a pretty, nursery rhyme themed quilt thrown over the back for comfort.
-
Step 3
Using a projector or graph paper enlargement, stencil Mother Goose printables onto the walls. Paint them in bright colors. You can also put up a wipe off marker board or a giant sized artists' pad at the child's height, stenciled with outlines of Mother Goose characters to color. Be sure to use washable markers with non toxic ink or wipe off crayons.
-
Step 4
Glue googly eyes to metal spoon and platter with clear silicone adhesive. Hang metal spoon and platter on the wall, well out of reach of toddlers or infants. Be sure to have adequate ventilation when using silicone adhesive. If you can smell fumes, you do not have adequate ventilation. Hang other Mother Goose themed wall decorations around the room as well. Scatter stuffed farm animals around the room and on the book shelves.

Step 5
Finally, install a couple of bookcases filled with children's books. Well loved books from your own childhood, garage sale finds, or books from your local friend of the library sale will bring delight to any child. Be sure to place a padded bench or a beanbag chair between the bookcases so that your child can read in comfort.
