Play as often as possible. This one is rather obvious. The more that you play, the better and more experienced you will become. You will get used to how fast a game moves, you will begin to create routes and strategies for yourself as you enter a round, and most importantly, your general reaction time will improve.

Customize your game settings. Many players will find that altering even a few settings from the in game menu will do wonders for their performance. The most common are the mouse sensitivity rating and the video settings. If you find that you are seeing enemies before you die, but simply don’t have enough time to train your gun on them and pull the trigger, increase the sensitivity rating. Likewise, if you see enemies but are unable to focus your shots when the gun is firing, lowering the rating is a good idea. Video settings can affect the game as well. If your computer's processor is working too hard at rendering the virtual environment, you may experience a lag time in game. This can be corrected by turning down the video settings, so your machine can focus more on getting the timing right, rather than making everything look pretty.

Play different types of games. The standard bomb defusal and hostage rescue scenarios have been a staple of Counterstrike since the beginning, but there are a whole number of other game types that are specifically targeted towards a certain area of the game. For example, the Zombie Mod is an excellent way to improve accuracy, since only headshots will affect your targets. Similarly, the Gungame Mod is a great way to improve your speed, as the pacing is significantly faster than that of a normal round. Explore the different types, and you will see your performance improve in a very short amount of time.
