How to Make Patches

Children's clothing is so expensive these days, and children grow so quickly, that many families are looking to thrift stores and hand me downs to stretch their budgets. Even smart shopping like buying clothes at the end of this season for the next, can save you a bundle. But what do you do when you spend your hard earned money on your children's clothing and they end up with unsightly holes? Patch them up! This is an easy, no sew project that will give your children's clothing a second chance! Some fabric with prints that your children can choose themselves, will make great patches for clothes that you thought were ruined forever.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a fabric that is of a thicker quality, like a light denim or heavy cotton. The fabric can have pictures, prints, zig-zags, or whatever kind of embellishment that you and your child would like.

    • 2

Cut the fabric into the size and shape that you will need to cover the hole.

    • 3

Using your newly cut patch as a pattern, cut a piece of no sew adhesive the same size.

    • 4

Place your no sew adhesive piece, over the hole.

    • 5

Center your newly cut patch over the adhesive, and attach it with a few straight pins.

    • 6

Turn the clothing with the new patch attached, inside out.

    • 7

Get your iron, and iron the area where the patch is, to secure it to the clothing.

    • 8

Turn your clothing inside right, and check that your patch is secure, if it needs more ironing, repeat the process. If not, you are done!

Tips & Warnings

  • Set your iron to the no steam setting. The steam is not recommended for the adhesive while ironing it on.

  • Be careful not to burn your clothing or yourself while ironing!
