  1. How to Do Lat Pull Downs

      Adjust the thigh pads on the machine so you can sit in it comfortably. Adjust the seat height so it is also comfortable.

      Adjust the weight to an amount you can handle for eight repetitions.

      Grasp the bar with your hands slightly farther than shoulder-width apart.

      Slowly sit down while grasping the bar and situating your thighs below the thigh pads.

      Pull the bar down to your chest while keeping your back straight. Squeeze your lats for a split second as the bar nears your chest.

      Return the bar to the starting position and complete eight repetitions.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you cannot complete eight repetitions with your back straight, and you find yourself rocking back and forth, you may need to reduce the weight.

  • Do not rock your back to pull the weight down. Keep your back straight to prevent injury.
