Dress for a Summer Evening Wedding

Summer is wedding seasons and no doubt if you know people getting married, you will end up with at least one summer evening wedding to attend. Dressing appropriately for the wedding is important; you want to look good and stay cool. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Read the invitation. There should be some clues as to how formal the wedding is. If it's black-tie or similar, you will want a full length gown.

    • 2

Skip the hose. Avoid pantyhose and go with bronzer, spray-on tan, or just bare legs. It's too hot to wear pantyhose! If you worry about chafing, be sure to use a moisturizing, thick lotion on legs and arms.

    • 3

Wear appropriate shoes. Is the wedding or reception outside? If so, then six-inch heels is probably not appropriate. Consider fancy flats or sandals.

    • 4

Stick to tea-length or above the knee. Just because it's summer doesn't mean you can wear a micro-mini to the wedding. Don't dress too sexy or wear anything too short.

    • 5

Apply make-up lightly. Don't overdo the cosmetics or it will all melt away. Try tinted moisturizer, bronze and gold shadows and light lip gloss.

    • 6

Go for an up-do. Keep hair up and off the shoulders for maximum coolness. Use barrettes and clips to keep hair in place. This will help in humid climates as well.

    • 7

Splurge on the mani-pedi. The chances are that you will be wearing open-toe shoes. Make sure to get your nails done.

It's totally inappropriate to tell women not to wear hosiery when they wear a dress or a skirt. This nasty trend just started a few years ago. I think women look horrible with bare legs at a formal affair. Without hosiery, they don't look fully dressed. It's highly inappropriate and this horrible trend has now spread to the workplace. Women look much better with hosiery, so why would a woman want to look worse, just for the sake of slight comfort? Take a cue from airline stewardesses. Most of them have to wear dresses and have to wear hosiery and they all look great. Bare legs simply don't have the sex appeal that legs wrapped in silk have. Telling women to go bare-legged is bad advice.
