Being a new mom can be overwhelming. Sometimes, all you accomplish besides taking care of the baby, is a shower, but with a little effort, you can find time to exercise.

Things You'll Need:

  • 10 minutes to start
  • Great walking, aerobics, or running shoes
  • Stroller

    Finding time

  1. Step 1

Start with 10 minutes, three days per week. While you need time to sleep, shower, and recover, plus take care of the baby, it may seem that 10 minutes is a long time. But you can get your exercise walking back and forth across your house with your baby in your arms, doing the first 10 minutes of an exercise tape, or just loading up the baby for a short walk around the neighborhood.

  2. Step 2

Involve the baby in your exercise routine, and involve your exercise routine in baby’s routine. Maybe the best time to exercise is during the baby’s nap, so take him for a walk in the stroller. Or you may be able to find an exercise tape that helps you exercise while your baby plays.

  3. Step 3

Build up to your old exercise routine by slowly adding time, distance, or sessions to your recovery routine. If you didn’t have an exercise routine, this is a great time to start one. Once you find time to exercise for ten minutes, it will be easier to add time. Add 5 minutes to each exercise session each week, and over 3-4 weeks, you will be exercising 15-20 minutes. It doesn’t matter whether you are walking, doing yoga, using exercise tapes, or even going to the gym. Once you have been exercising a month, then go ahead and add another day to your schedule.

  4. Step 4

Realize that exercise time is “ME” time, but you don’t always have to exercise at exactly the same time each day. Listen to your body and take a morning nap if you need to, but make sure that you work in your exercise session that afternoon. Whenever you take the time to exercise, it can make you feel better, give you more energy to give back to your family.

  5. Step 5

You can take a break to take care of the baby’s needs; then finish your exercise routine. It may be hard at first to get back into finishing your total session when you’ve had to take an hour to feed, change, and help your baby get back to sleep. However, you can still lose weight and get in shape with the split sessions, so don’t give up.

Tips & Warnings
  • Enlist a partner to get you motivated. Whether they exercise with you or watch the baby while you exercise, a partner can help you succeed!
