If you have a child who has braces then you probably know how hard it is to find things that they can stand to eat through the pain after a visit to their orthodontist to get them tightened. Fear not. Grocery shopping for someone who has just had their braces tightened doesn't have to be hard.

  1. Grocery Shopping for Someone Who Just Had Their Braces Tightened

    • 1

Don't fear the sweets. The longest that your child will have to eat these special foods after having their braces tightened is probably about a week, and a week of more than the average amount of sweets is not going to kill them. Make sure that they brush their teeth or use a mouth wash more often, however, to avoid all that sugar eating away at their teeth.

    • 2

Stock up on pudding and Jell-O, their sweetness will encourage your child to eat something, even when they don't feel like it because of the pain they are experiencing.

    • 3

Take a look at the soup aisle. Vegetable soup can be cooked longer than recommended to make the vegetable extra soft, which makes it much easier to consume. Noodle soups are also a great option for a child who just had their braces tightened.

    • 4

Buy things that don't require chewing but that offer lots of nutrients. Bananas, yogurt, and overcooked pasta are all great healthy options for a child who has just had their braces tightened. Just remember with the pasta that you should stick to creamy sauces instead of meaty ones.

    • 5

Buy some liquid meals for the time that your child spends away from the house. Weight Watchers, Ensure and other liquid meals are great options for breakfast on the run or other times when your child will need something quick that they can eat while they are away from the house.

    • 6

Buy potatoes or instant mashed potatoes and canned gravy for quick meals. If you don't feel like making a big batch of mashed potatoes that your child can heat up for a quick meal then instant mashed potatoes are a great option.
