Groceries, along with everything else, are rising in price and you may find it impossible to feed a family of five for $5.00. Follow the steps below and make a wonderful filling meal for your family without going broke. The secret is in the shopping and store sales. You can also substitute the beef in the example menu for turkey which is often cheaper, or leave the meat out of the sauce entirely.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Pound of ground beef or turkey - .99 cents
  • 1 Large can of pasta sauce - .99 cents
  • 1 Loaf of Italian bread - .99 cents
  • 2 Packages of pasta - $1.60
  • 1 Package of margarine - .39 cents

    Dinner For Five for $5.00

  1. Step 1

Shop wisely and use your store sales papers to plan out your meals. In the dinner example, ground beef was on sale for 99 cents a pound, the rest of the meal was planned around that sale item, In this case, we will make a pasta dinner with meat sauce, and Italian bread.

  2. Step 2

Brown the ground beef, drain it and set aside.. Open the can of pasta sauce and put in a saucepan on medium heat. Add the ground beef to the sauce and heat.

  3. Step 3

Cook pasta according to package directions, then drain and rinse. Place back into pot and add 3 tablespoons of margarine. Gently heat and mix well.

  4. Step 4

Slice the loaf of Italian bread into thick pieces and spread margarine on top of each slice. Place into 350 degree oven if you want the bread to be warm and crispy. Heat for 5 to 10 minutes or until desired crispness is achieved. Bread can also be served soft by omitting the oven heating.

  5. Step 5

Place the pasta onto a serving platter and spoon meat sauce on top. Serve with slices of Italian bread.
