How to Customize Macintosh Desktop Icons

With a Macintosh, it's quite easy to use your own pictures for any icons - document, application, folder or whatever.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Macintosh Computers
  • Paint Programs
  1. Step 1

    Create, copy or scan an image file into a paint program.

  2. Step 2

    Copy the image to the Clipboard by pressing Command-C.

  3. Step 3

    Select the icon you want to use the picture with.

  4. Step 4

    Open the File menu and choose Get Info, or press Command-I.

  5. Step 5

    Click in the box at the upper left corner of the Get Info dialog box.

  6. Step 6

    Press Command-V to paste the image into the box, and voilĂ  - your new image will be used for the icon picture.

Tips & Warnings
  • Mac icon images are 32 by 32 pixels. You can attempt to use a larger image, but it might get shrunken in a strange way.
