Do you dream of flying broomsticks, bubbling cauldrons and turning your roommate into a frog? Well, that's not quite how real magick works, but with this simple guide we can get you up to speed and casting basic spells in no time.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pen, Paper, White or Black Candle, Candle Holder
  1. Step 1

Real magick, spelled with a "k" to distinguish it from stage magic, works under one simple principle: "As Above, So Below". We could talk about what this means forever, but for now all you need to know is that it means that everything is connected. The world inside us, our thoughts and feelings, is connected to the world outside of us. This connection is called "the magickal link", and it is the basis of all magick. To use the magickal link, all you have to do is focus the world inside of you behind a single idea and then push it out into the universe. The systems of magick are theories and methods about how to "push" effectively. The method we are going to use is common to most systems of modern magick. It is called a "sigil", and the first step in creating one is to form a clear idea of what you want. Try to get a clear idea of what you want to have happen. Don't be too specific. That comes later, after you have gotten some skill. If you want to find good job, think about what you mean by "good". Do you mean high paying or fun, secure or exciting? If you end up wanting it all, try to back off a step. Think about what you would need to have happen in order to make it possible for you to have it all, and focus your spell on that.

  2. Step 2

Now that you have your wish figured out, form that wish into a simple sentence that you can remember and hold clearly in your mind. Here is where you might have to edit yourself a bit. The entire meaning of your sentence must be clear in your thoughts. Make the sentence simple. Remember you can do several simple spells rather one complex one.Phrase the sentence in the present tense, such as "I have a job that pays well" rather than "I want a job that pays well". Try to use active verbs. Write this sentence on the piece of paper, and make sure to leave plenty of room.

  3. Step 3

Once you have your sentence figured out, ask yourself what kind of spell this is. There are two basic types of magick: projective and receptive. Projective magick puts something out into the universe, and receptive magick pulls something into you. If you are working with our example sentence, "I have a job that pays well", then your spell is projective because it is putting a change you want out into the universe. For a projective spell you want to use a white candle, and for a receptive spell you need a black candle. The simple rule is where the change is going to taking place. If you want the world to change, use a white candle; when you want to change yourself, use a black candle.

  4. Step 4

Armed with sentence and candle, it's time to make your sigil. If any letter in the sentence appears more than once, cross it out completely, only leaving the first incidence of any letter.Using our example sentence we have "I have a job that pays well", which becomes "IHAVEJOBTPYSWL".Remember to completely cross out the extra letters. You should not be able to see what they were.

  5. Step 5

Now, draw a large capital version of the first letter of your sentence and completely cross out the letter in your sentence. Then draw the second letter on top of the first. Use straight lines.

  6. Step 6

Do this for all the letters. Your entire sentence should be completely covered. Nothing should exist that connects the sigil you have created with the original sentence except your own mind.

  7. Step 7

Finally, you are ready to cast your spell. Fold up your piece of paper and put it under the base of your candle. Melt a little wax to get the paper and the candle to stick to the candle holder and put the candle somewhere safe in your home where it can burn safely. Make sure to put it somewhere you will pass by and see it over the course of your day.Clear your mind. Take a deep breath and think about what it was you wanted. Wish for it as hard as you have ever wished for anything...and light the candle. Now forget about it. Go about your life. Every time you pass through the room, your internal world will be reminded of your spell and push harder on the external universe. Let the candle burn itself out, and the object of your spell will come to pass.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to wish with every part of you. Mind, heart, will and body should be united in your desire.
  • Don't be afraid to be creative...the more the magick is yours, the stronger it will be.
  • Don't obsess on your spell...all it does is pull your energy back to you.
  • Be careful about your ethics...right and wrong don't change just because you use magick.

on 7/13/2008 This is good information for beginners! And you are absolutely correct in saying that obsessing on the wish will pull the energy back to you. I've had spells backfire because of obsessing.
