How to Make a Pirate Costume

How to Make a Pirate Costume thumbnail
Hit movies have caused the popularity of the pirate costume to skyrocket.

Pirate costumes are classic Halloween outfits. They are great for adults' and children's parties, and make fine togs to answer the door in as you hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. You can make a pirate costume with items that you probably already have around the house. Anything you don't already have is easily obtainable at your local craft or hobby store.

Instructions

  1. How to Make a Pirate Costume

    • 1
No pirate is complete without his hook and eyepatch.

Cut the cardboard into a circle and a large question-mark shape. This will be your eyepatch and hook.

    • 2

Poke holes in the sides of the circular piece of cardboard. (You will later run yarn through these holes to hold the eyepatch on.)

    • 3

Spray paint the sun hat, the shoebox and the eyepatch black. (Do this outside, so that you do not get spray paint on your furniture.)

    • 4

Spray paint your hook silver. (Also do this outside.)

    • 5

Thread the yarn through the holes in the eye patch. This will hold the patch on your head.

    • 6
Use a feather to trim the hat.

Glue the large feather to the side of the sun hat. Now you have a pirate's hat that has plenty of flair.

    • 7

Place the gold chains in the shoebox. This will be your treasure chest.

    • 8

Put on the tight red pants, loose white shirt, black belt and boots. You can tuck the white shirt into the red pants, then blouse it out. Tuck the red pants into the black boots.

    • 9

Place your black hat on your head. Turn it so the feather is on the side.

    • 10

Grasp the straight edge of the silver hook in your hand. Cover your hand with the end of your sleeve, so it looks like you have a hook instead of a hand.

    • 11
Every pirate needs a chest of gold.

Hold the treasure chest under your arm. You can growl and brandish your hook at people who try to look in the box. If you are trick-or-treating, you can also put your candy in the box.

    • 12

Tie on your eyepatch once you reach your destination. If you have to drive to a party or some other festivities, wait until you are done driving to put it on!
