How to Make a Tongue Groove in Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood flooring is among the best flooring material for durability and long life. Installing it can be a bit difficult, especially when there is a need for modification of an existing plank. Secure the 1-by-2 inch lumber to a tabletop with clamps.

Set the bit in the router and tighten the shaft nut securely.

Set the height of the bit to cut the center out of the 1-by-2.

It may be necessary to make a couple of passes to create the groove needed.

Sand the groove to be certain there are no rough spots that may prevent the tongue for slipping into it.

Always wear safety glasses.
Making more than one pass will help prevent splintering.
Do not adjust router while it is running.
